"The price of success is hard work, dedication to job at hand and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” "

Vince Lombardi

As a teenager, I first started playing volleyball on the beaches of Zuma, Malibu and Venice when I was living in Los Angeles.  I had played football my whole life, but volleyball required a different skill set and I enjoyed the challenge.  I played on my first team when I was 21 while serving in the Army in Germany.  We had a great coach from Venezuela who taught me and my teammates the fundamentals of volleyball and we went undefeated that season.  I was hooked, but when I returned home, I didn’t really know where to find any teams so I just played sand volleyball with my friends from San Diego.  Fast forward to 4 years ago when I introduced volleyball to my daughter at the age of 9.  She had tried soccer, softball and cheerleading, but the more I passed the volleyball with her, the more she became hooked and totally forgot about the other sports.  Watching her excitement for the sport reenergized my love and passion for the game.  I have coached her in school and club ball and seeing her and her friends’ enthusiasm to learn the sport enhances the drive in me to continue teaching and coaching the sport.  I enjoy giving feedback to a player and then watching them execute what they have learned.  From my military background, I use my leadership ability to teach these young ladies hard work, discipline, never give up attitude, camaraderie and how to apply volleyball to life’s lessons.  I believe all of the coaches at DLV are leaders who just happen to be volleyball coaches.
